Overview

We've partnered with the Social Mobility Foundation, a charity which aims to make a practical improvement in social mobility for young people from low-income backgrounds. Through the Social Mobility Foundation's Aspiring Professionals Programme we're offering the opportunity to develop your employability skills and gain experience working at EDF Energy on our Work Insight Programme.

If you’re currently in Year 12, have an interest in Science or Business and would like to get a real insight into EDF Energy and what we do, our Work Insight Programme is just the thing. Over the course of two years you’ll be given the opportunity to spend time at EDF Energy and gain an insight into different careers and opportunities available to you.

We're looking to recruit the next generation of professionals to support low-carbon energy and you could be part of it!

Requirements

  • You're in Year 12 and based in or live within an hour of Sizewell Power Station in Suffolk, or Hinkley Point C Power Station in Somerset
  • You've been eligible for free school meals at some point during your secondary schooling, or are the first generation in your family to attend university in the UK and attend a school on this list
  • You obtained 5 A grades at GCSE or 4 A grades at GCSE at a school with a 50% or lower GCSE pass rate
  • You are predicted at least ABB at A Level
  • For Biology and Chemistry applicants: you must be studying at least two of the following subjects at AS-level/Advanced Higher/IB or equivalent: Maths, Further Maths, Chemistry, Biology, Physics
  • For Engineering and Physics applicants: you must be studying Maths or Further Maths, and Physics at A-level/IB or equivalent
  • Please note we consider exceptions for those that have had serious disruption to their studies. This will need to be confirmed by a teacher. If you are, or have been, a child in care, please read the eligibility information here

The programme has been designed to give you support, guidance and resources to help you take steps towards your dream career. Beginning in Year 12 with an introductory session about EDF Energy, you’ll start to think about your skills and abilities through skills experience days.

In Year 13 you will attend additional skills days and will have the opportunity to be supported by a mentor, offering advice and guidance on careers, opportunities and what you might like to achieve after your studies.

Application

Eligible students will be assessed on the basis of the quality of their completed application forms, their school/college context, family history of higher education and teacher references.
