Every year young adults make one of the biggest decisions of their life – what to do after school/college and university. Students are faced with many options during this process – which can be overwhelming. You want your child to have the best possible start in their career following their education, and so do we. We have a range of schemes available for post GCSE and A-level (or equivalent) students, as well as graduate and undergraduate schemes.
We've partnered with the Social Mobility Foundation, a charity which aims to make a practical improvement in social mobility for young people from low-income backgrounds. Through the Social Mobility Foundation's Aspiring Professionals Programme we're offering the opportunity to gain experience working at EDF Energy on our Work Insight Programme.

Based first at the National College for Nuclear, Somerset, then one of our UK power stations, this is a brilliant way to start your career in engineering. You’ll get a unique insight into what it takes to run and maintain a power station, develop a wide range of technical skills as well as gaining a Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician Apprenticeship Certificate, a BTEC Level 3 and the potential for further education such as a HNC.
- 5 GCSEs or National 5s required
- 4 year apprenticeship
A fantastic opportunity, based either in the South East or South West of England, to qualify as a Metering Engineer. As well as benefiting from valuable on-the-job training, you’ll gain recognised NVQ Level 3 and City & Guilds Technical qualifications. All of which will help you prepare for a bright future ahead.

- 54 week apprenticeship
- Valid driving licence required
The HPC Supply Chain (Commercial) Apprenticeship Programme will instil all the qualities and skills required to kick-start your career as a commercial professional with EDF Energy or one of our supply chain partners. You will spend 5 years learning from experts as part of the apprenticeship and, as well as getting valuable real world experience, you will study for a university level qualification.
- A National Certificate/Diploma in a business related programme with a merit profile, or
- A National Certificate/Diploma in a construction/engineering discipline with a merit profile.
- Minimum of 2 A-levels grade A-C in business-related subjects. Applicants also require 4 GCSE passes at grade C/4 or above (or their Level 2 equivalents), including maths and English.

On many, you can also expect to gain a professional qualification.

EDF Energy has an R&D centre in the UK with around 50 researchers in situ. The centre is an integral part of the EDF Group R&D network and works across the whole value chain of electricity; successfully leading on millions of pounds worth of international projects. It is a centre of expertise for the group benefiting from the UK's strong experience in a number of topics including Offshore Wind, Intermittency or Smart Grids and works across all EDF Energy specialisms including Nuclear, CCS, Energy Efficiency, Smart Meters, Electric Vehicles and Digital Futures.
The R&D Centre works in partnership with a number of universities across the UK to sponsor post-graduate research projects.
